Russia Intensifies Crackdown on Illegal Crypto Mining with Telecom Partnerships
Russian energy giant Rosseti is collaborating with telecom operators Rostelecom and MTS to identify illegal cryptocurrency mining operations. The initiative leverages AI-powered tools to analyze internet traffic and electricity consumption patterns, targeting facilities responsible for an estimated 1.3 trillion-ruble loss in unauthorized power usage.
"Areas with abnormal traffic are indicated," said Andrei Ryumin, Rosseti's director general, confirming the deployment of MTS's EnergyTool platform. The technology detects mining activity through data volume anomalies and smart meter readings, marking a significant escalation in Russia's enforcement against unauthorized crypto operations.
